Prepared by the Scalabrini Migration Center on behalf of the La Trobe University Regional Social Development Centre and the International Social Service Migrant Worker Project of the International Labor Organization. This report presents a detailed assessment of the orientation and preparatory programs for women migrant workers conducted by government and nongovernment organizations. Data were derived from interviews with government agencies, recruitment agencies, non-government organizations and individual migrants, as well as from secondary sources. The Pre-Departure Orientation Seminar (PDOS), skills training of domestic workers, entertainers and nurses, and the Pre-Employment Orientation Seminar (PEOS) are described and evaluated. Recommendations are made for program improvement and expansion.
