Workshop with guidance counselors
November 14 -15 2019
About 80 guidance counselors, largely school-based, participated in the First Luzon Convention of SDO (Sons and Daughters of OFWs) Formators, which was held at the Manresa Retreat House, Quezon City on 14-15 November 2019. The program is part of the work of the Episcopal Commission for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant People (ECMI). SMC contributed to the program by sharing findings from the Child Health and Migrant Parents in Southeast Asia (CHAMPSEA) research project and their implications for the roles of guidance counselors. Dr. Lucy Jordan, Associate Professor, Department of Social Work and Administration, University of Hong Kong, culled findings from CHAMPSEA related to psychological risks and resilience of children and carers, while Dr. Maruja Asis, SMC, discussed educational and career guidance issues.
