The International Catholic Migration Commission (ICMC) organized two regional meetings in Bangkok, Thailand on December 1-4, 2019. The first meeting, “Putting People at the Centre,” was the theme of the ICMC Asia-Oceania Working Group. The participants discussed what had been accomplished and action points for 2020 on three key issues: child migrants and refugees, human trafficking and labor migration. The second meeting focused on the “Future of Work” which included presentations on research conducted under the “The Future of Work, Labour After Laudato Si” global initiative coordinated by ICMC. SMC completed two research projects under this initiative: “Filipino, Indonesian and Vietnamese Fishermen on Taiwanese Fishing Vessels,” and Exploring Agriculture as an Alternative to Migration for Young Filipinos.” SMC Director Maruja M.B. Asis shared findings from these studies.
