Yesterday, SMC welcomed three researchers visiting from South Korea.

Ms. Rowena de Guzman and Dr. Jooyoung Kim, PhD student and Research Fellow from the Jeonbuk National University Institute for Southeast Asian Studies, respectively, visited SMC for an exchange about temporary Filipino labor migration in South Korea.
Dr. Jung-eun Lee, senior researcher at the Kinugasa Research Center, Ritsumeikan University, shared her research on the Korean-owned English language centers in the Philippines.

Ms. Rowena de Guzman and Dr. Jooyoung Kim, PhD student and research fellow from the Jeonbuk National University Institute for Southeast Asian Studies, respectively, visited SMC for an exchange about temporary Filipino labor migration in South Korea. They are working on a project exploring the Philippine perspective on the pilot program deploying Filipino caregivers in South Korean households as a response to the declining birthrate by providing assistance in childcare responsibilities.
Ms. De Guzman is also an Assistant Professor at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), Department of Social Sciences, and previously collaborated with the Center in the implementation of the Child Health and Migrant Parents in South East Asia (CHAMPSEA) project in Laguna.

She also delivered a plenary speech entitled “How South Korean Entrepreneurs Reconstruct Filipino Women as English Instructors“ at the 10th Philippine Korean Studies Symposium organized by the UP Korean Center.
