Seasonal Orphans and Solo Parents: The Impact of Overseas Migration. Quezon City: Scalabrini Migration Center, 1987.
This publication presents the results of a survey of high school- and college-aged children of migrant parents to appraise the impact of labor migration. The study sample consisted of a “migrant group” of 296 children who had at least one parent working overseas and 88 solo parents and guardians, and a “nonmigrant group” of 166 students and 90 parents and guardians. Though results are not conclusive, certain problems were identified as common (discipline and health problems, loneliness, lack of parental guidance). Benefits were identified as chiefly economic.
