M&D Café 7
January 23 2016
The Migration and Development Network on January 23 held its first M&D Café for 2016, reuniting its members at the Scalabrini Migration Center (SMC) library in Quezon City for an afternoon’s discussion on two research presentations and participants’ updates on their migration-related research work.
Guest presenter Dr. Michelle Ong from the University of the Philippines Department of Psychology shared key findings from her study, titled “The Role of Beauty and Health in Filipinas’ Embodiment of Migrant Success in Aging,” which centered on Filipino migrant women in New Zealand.
Dr. Marla Asis and Karen Liao of SMC reported the preliminary results of the center’s ongoing research on temporary migration between Europe and the Philippines. Their presentation titled “Not on the Same Page: Migrants’ Intentions and Policies on Temporary Migration between the Philippines and Europe” summarized key highlights of recently conducted interviews with migrants. The research is part of an EU-funded, multi-country study led by the University of Tampere in Finland (Temporary Migration in Transition: Transformative Characteristics of the Temporary Mobility of People or EURA-NET). The dissemination is part of EURA-NET activities.
