Migration Conversations with Mr. Jay Mar Albaos

November 25 2025

On 18 November 2025, the Scalabrini Migration Center (SMC) hosted Mr. Jay Mar Albaos for a Migration Conversations session sharing his work as an anthropologist and artistic researcher in Belgium.

Jay’s presentation, entitled “A Personal Attempt to Note Down Migrant Precarity in Flemish Belgium: The Other is (Always) Angry,” is based on his recently published article bearing the same title (https://doi.org/10.1177/16094069251392416), exploring migrant precarity through autoethnography and artistic immersion. He is a PhD candidate at the LUCA School of Arts (Gent) / KU Leuven.

The presentation was attended by colleagues from the government and the academe, spurring reflections on advocacy, cultural diversity, and exchanges on how the findings can translate into policy.

The event is part of the AspirE project’s activities. For more information about AspirE, see https://aspire.ulb.be.
