Roundtable on Disaster Data

August 17 2026

Last August 17, SMC and Aapti Institute co-organized a roundtable on “Whole-of-Society Coordination on Disaster Data: Findings from the Philippines.” The event served as a platform to share findings from Aapti Institute’s mapping of disaster data, stakeholders and community participation on disaster risk reduction and management, and the use of data in recognizing and supporting those affected by disasters.

The heavy monsoon rains were a reminder of how the Philippines is no stranger to displacements, disruptions and damage caused by typhoons, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and other natural and human-made disasters.

Ms. Nandini Jiva and Ms. Antara Madavane of Aapti Institute presented highlights from their case study of the Philippines and co-facilitated the dialogue with participants. Both noted the whole-of-society approach in disaster preparedness and response in the Philippines and how better coordination can reinforce good practices established thus far.
