{"id":1862,"date":"2020-03-16T17:59:24","date_gmt":"2020-03-16T09:59:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/smc.org.ph\/?post_type=book_or_monograph&#038;p=1862"},"modified":"2020-03-16T17:59:25","modified_gmt":"2020-03-16T09:59:25","slug":"out-at-sea-out-of-sight-filipino-indonesian-and-vietnamese-fishermen-on-taiwanese-fishing-vessels","status":"publish","type":"book_or_monograph","link":"https:\/\/smc.org.ph\/index.php\/book_or_monograph\/out-at-sea-out-of-sight-filipino-indonesian-and-vietnamese-fishermen-on-taiwanese-fishing-vessels\/","title":{"rendered":"OUT AT SEA, OUT OF SIGHT: Filipino, Indonesian and Vietnamese Fishermen on Taiwanese Fishing Vessels"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>This research was part of \u201cThe Future of Work, Labour After <em>Laudato\u00a0 S\u00ec<\/em>\u201d global initiative that connected\u00a0\u00a0 Catholic-inspired\u00a0\u00a0 and\u00a0\u00a0 other\u00a0\u00a0 faith-based\u00a0\u00a0 organizations\u00a0\u00a0 to\u00a0\u00a0 help\u00a0\u00a0 promote\u00a0\u00a0 and implement Pope Francis\u2019 encyclical <em>Laudato S\u00ec<\/em> in areas related to work.\u00a0\u00a0 The initiative brought together international, regional, state and local actors to improve global governance and to highlight just policies and good practices.\u00a0 The International Catholic Migration Commission (ICMC) led the research track for this project on \u201cJobs, demography and migration.\u201d The study on Southeast Asian fishermen working on Taiwanese fishing vessels is one of the studies commissioned by ICMC to SMC. The report is based on interviews with Filipino, Indonesian and Vietnamese fishermen on Taiwanese fishing vessels. The findings point to trafficking elements in the working conditions of migrant fishermen.
