Decades ago, migration was mostly viewed as an activity undertaken by women. If women figured in migration, they were mainly seen as associational migrants, i.e., they move as part of family migration, accompanying or reuniting with male family members who have preceded them in areas of destination. We have come a long way in appreciating women and girls as actors in the world of migration.
